Chemically-modified mitochondrial toxin could lead to a new molecularly-targeted chemo drug

A chemically-modified version of a mitochondrial toxin long used to control species of invasive fish in lakes has been found to selectively inhibit two "survival proteins" in cancer cells.

Arsenic, which can be present in ground water, modifies an enzyme that alters the secretion of insulin in the pancreas. Researchers create bone-like material and structure for orthopedic procedures

Washington State University researchers have used a 3D printer to create a bone-like material and structure that can be used in orthopedic procedures, dental work, and to deliver medicine for treating osteoporosis. Paired with actual bone, it acts as a scaffold for new bone to grow on and ultimately dissolves with no apparent ill effects.
