U.N. Calls for increased collaboration, funding to fight malaria ahead of World Malaria Day on Wednesday

Speaking at a press conference at U.N. Headquarters ahead of World Malaria Day, observed Wednesday, a U.N. envoy on Monday called for "an increase in collaboration and partnerships among donor and recipient countries ... to boost efforts to prevent and treat malaria, ... while also calling for an increase in funding to combat the deadly disease," the U.N. News Centre reports.

Oil Can Henry's customers raise $45,401 to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Oil Can Henry's customers rose to the challenge in July and helped the company raise $45,401 to support the Oregon and SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help save lives and end breast cancer. Over the week-long fundraising effort, Oil Can Henry's locations in Oregon and Southwest Washington performed oil changes on 15,746 vehicles. In addition, customers had the opportunity to donate directly to Komen at the time of service.

Two Yale faculty members awarded a MacArthur "genius" grant for extraordinary commitment to research

Two Yale faculty members have been named MacArthur Foundation Fellows for 2009, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced. Mary Tinetti, M.D., the Gladys Phillips Crofoot Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Public Health and Richard O. Prum, the William Robertson Coe Professor of Ornithology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology will each receive a five-year, $500,000 "genius" grant to spend as they see fit.
