Neurosurgeons perform world's first operation on 'habenula' to treat depression

A team of neurosurgeons at Heidelberg University Hospital and psychiatrists at the Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim have for the first time successfully treated a patient suffering from severe depression by stimulating the habenula, a tiny nerve structure in the brain.

French researchers introduce new method to effectively control bleeding and repair tissues

Stopping bleeding, closing wounds, repairing organs—these are everyday challenges in medical and surgical practice. In the journal Angewandte Chemie, French researchers have now introduced a new method that employs gluing by aqueous nanoparticle solutions to effectively control bleeding and repair tissues. In animal tests, their approach proved easy to apply, rapid and efficient even in situations when conventional methods are traumatic or fail.

TCH 2010 bonds rated 'AA'

Fitch Ratings has assigned an 'AA' rating to Texas Children's Hospital's (TCH) upcoming $78.82 million series 2010 bonds issued through the Harris County Cultural Education Facilities Finance Corporation (Cultural Corporation). In addition, Fitch affirms the unenhanced 'AA' ratings on TCH's outstanding debt (approximately $735 million as of Sept. 30, 2009) issued by the Cultural Corporation and by the Harris County Health Facilities Development Corporation. vv
