BioSante announces $15 million registered direct offering

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has received commitments from several institutional investors to purchase $15 million of securities in a registered direct offering. The investors are Deerfield Management Company and other institutional investors. BioSante expects to receive net proceeds of approximately $14.2 million after deducting placement agent fees and other offering expenses.

Three quarters of U.S. physicians and nurses recommend dietary supplements to their patients

The study also shows that an almost equal number - 72 percent of physicians and 89 percent of nurses - personally use vitamin, mineral, herbal and other supplements either regularly, occasionally or seasonally, which is a higher percentage than the 68 percent of adults who report they take nutritional or dietary supplements.

Women's Medicine Collaborative primary care team earns NCQA recognition

The Women's Medicine Collaborative primary care team has been designated a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The patient-centered medical home model of care emphasizes using coordination and communication to transform primary care to accommodate patients' needs. Having a nurse care manager work one on one with high-risk patients who have chronic conditions leads to a higher quality, better patient experience and reduced costs. Level 3 is NCQA's highest designation in its recognition program.

Robotic laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery

A system that allows surgeons to perform laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery from a remote console, controlling up to three robotic arms and a binocular camera, was successfully tested in 10 patients, according to a study in the August issue of Archives of Surgery.
