Among patients with obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension that requires 3 or more medications to control, continuous positive airway pressure treatment for 12 weeks resulted in a decrease in 24-hour average and diastolic blood pressure and an improvement in the nocturnal blood pressure pattern, compared to patients who did not receive CPAP, according to a study appearing in the December 11issue of JAMA.

Euthymics Bioscience, Inc., a privately held Delaware corporation, today announced that it has signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to merge into and acquire DOV Pharmaceutical, Inc. (DOV), a Delaware corporation currently traded on the Pink Sheets, for $2.0 million in cash plus payment of certain of DOV's expenses. DOV believes that the contemplated $2.0 million cash payment to shareholders represents approximately $0.015 per share of DOV common stock. If the transaction is consummated, it is anticipated that DOV will be renamed Euthymics Bioscience, Inc.
Cancer cells circulating in the blood, or circulating tumour cells (CTCs), are known to be associated with a bad prognosis in women with metastatic breast cancer. Now, for the first time, a group of scientists have shown that they can also detect CTCs before and after chemotherapy treatment and hence may be able to identify those patients likely to have a recurrence of their cancer after such treatment in future.
