Academic and industrial laboratories can now easily collect routine high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data on molecules in solution using the Thermo Scientific picoSpin 80, a portable, competitively-priced NMR spectrometer built for benchtop operation.
Spanish surgeons, this Monday, performed the world's first double-leg transplant, giving an accident victim two new legs. Experts said it will be a month at least before the team will know if the procedure was a success. However if the legs are rejected that could happen immediately.
Led by Drs John Postlethwait and Ingo Braasch from the Institute of Neuroscience, University of Oregon, US, in collaboration with the Broad Institute, the study of the Spotted Gar (Lepisosteus oculatus) genome reveals that it is small and manageable. Furthermore, it lacks much shuffling and duplication that occurred in the 'main' fish ancestral line; it conserved its genome.
Miami, Hartford and Indianapolis ranked at the top in Press Ganey's annual report on patient satisfaction in hospital emergency departments. A survey of more than 1.6 million patients treated at 1,908 hospitals nationwide between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2010 gauged their experiences and how satisfied they were with the treatment they received in the emergency department.
