The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported on January 26 that "a possible association between saline and silicone gel-filled breast implants and anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a very rare type of cancer. Data reviewed by the FDA suggests that patients with breast implants may have a very small, but significant risk, of ALCL in the scar capsule adjacent to the implant.
Neuropathic pain - pain that results from a malfunction in the nervous system - is a daily reality for millions of Americans. Unlike normal pain, it doesn't go away after the stimulus that provoked it ends, and it also behaves in a variety of other unusual and disturbing ways. Someone suffering from neuropathic pain might experience intense discomfort from a light touch, for example, or feel as though he or she were freezing in response to a slight change in temperature.
President Barack Obama told Democratic leaders Tuesday to finalize the health reform bill as soon as possible. He also encouraged them to bypass the usual conference committee in favor of acting quickly on the bill, The Associated Press reports.
