With President Barack Obama's reshuffling of White House personnel this week, the already small circle of administration officials driving the health policy has gotten even smaller and closer to the president -; and to each other. That means most of the important health care policy decisions will continue to be primarily driven by two people: Nancy-Ann DeParle, deputy White House chief of staff, and Jeanne Lambrew, deputy assistant to the president for health policy.
Regulators in charge of the Massachusetts health insurance law are expected to approve new contracts today that will save the state $80 million, in part by offering a narrower choice of hospitals, physicians, and specialists to thousands of patients insured through the state-subsidized Commonwealth Care program.
Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have been awarded a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a research agency within the U.S. Department of Defense, to find molecular signatures in blood that identify previous exposures and time of exposure to materials that could be associated with weapons of mass destruction (including infectious agents, chemicals, and radiation).
