Scientists have identified a gene in mice that plays a central role in the proper development of one of the nerve cells that goes bad in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, and some other diseases that affect our motor neurons.
The lack of sexual activity and function among older adults is linked to poorer health outcomes, including cancer, coronary heart disease (CHD), and fair or poor self-rated health, a new sexual science study found.
Inspire Pharmaceuticals, announced today financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2010. For the quarter ended December 31, 2010, the Company reported a net loss of $4.3 million, or per common share, compared to a net loss of $2.6 million, or per common share, for the same period in 2009.
Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) are all characterized by clumped, misfolded proteins and inflammation in the brain. In more than 90 percent of cases, physicians and scientists do not know what causes these processes to occur.
The Structural Heart Program team at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston is among the first in the country to investigate the safety and effectiveness of Edwards Lifesciences Sapien 3 transcatheter aortic heart valve in low surgical risk patients who suffer from severe aortic valve disease.
