"Comparative Effectiveness will have the most significant impact on the orthopaedic industry moving forward," noted John Engelhardt in his luncheon Keynote Address today at the 6th Annual Orthopaedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC) in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Engelhardt, CEO of ORTHOWORLD Inc. and Managing Member of Knowledge Ventures, LLC, emphasized that industry will be compelled to adopt the concept of comparative effectiveness throughout its business models in order to gain the efficiencies required to thrive in the future.
Heart failure patients who regularly exercise fare better and feel better about their lives than do similar patients who do not work out on a regular basis, say researchers at Duke University Medical Center.
Three studies presented this week at the American College of Gastroenterology's 74th Annual Scientific meeting in San Diego underscore the growing disparities in gastrointestinal disease, particularly colon cancer and Barrett's Esophagus, among certain ethnic and gender populations, including African Americans, Latinos and women. These race- and gender-specific disparities underscore the need for education and vigilance among these populations and perhaps more aggressive screening tactics than the population in general.
The Centre for Cultural Competence Australia (CCCA) will provide new online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency training to health professionals in New South Wales. Initially, 550 employees from the NSW General Practice Network will be trained in cultural competency, in order to improve the provision of health services for Indigenous communities throughout the state.
A study in 65 countries has revealed low adoption of International Atomic Energy Agency recommendations to reduce nuclear cardiology radiation exposure.
