Avedro, Inc., sponsor of two completed US FDA multi-center clinical trials for corneal cross-linking, today announced that its KXL™ System for performing accelerated corneal cross-linking (KXL) has received the European Union's CE Mark. The CE Mark certifies that the KXL System has met the EU's health and safety standards and opens the door to immediate commercialization across the European Economic Community and in other countries recognizing the CE Mark.
E-cadherin is a molecule involved in adhesion between epithelial cells that also seems to have a protective role in cancer, since its loss is associated with tumour progression and metastases formation in a series of different cancers.

Nissen, M.D., of the Cleveland Clinic, and colleagues identified patients with muscle-related adverse effects from statins and compared lipid-lowering efficacy for two nonstatin therapies, ezetimibe and evolocumab. In a study published today in the journal Cell Metabolism, the researchers identified 20 genes that are involved in this process. Besides giving scientists a better idea of where to look to uncover the mechanisms that ensure cholesterol balance is maintained, the discovery could lead to new treatments for cholesterol-related diseases.
