Over the last two centuries electrical microstimulation has been often used to demonstrate causal links between neural activity and specific behaviors or cognitive functions. However, to understand the mechanisms by which electrical microstimulation can cause alternations in behaviors and cognitive functions it is imperative to characterize the cortical activity patterns that are elicited by stimulation locally around the electrode and in other functionally connected areas.
Researchers at Oregon State University have found a way to use magnetic "nanobeads" to help detect chemical and biological agents, with possible applications in everything from bioterrorism to medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring or even water and food safety.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (together with its affiliates, "KKR") and funds advised by Permira announce that Lavena Holding 5 GmbH, the holding company held jointly by KKR and the Permira Funds, is intending to sell in the market a total of 8 million preference shares, representing approximately 3.7% of the total share capital of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG ("P7S1"), by way of an accelerated book building to institutional investors.
