When the Supreme Court took up the question Monday of whether genes could be patented, the justices were clearly concerned about preserving innovation in medicine and biotechnology. But the issue presented by Myriad Genetics' patents on the BRCA genes cuts both ways, leading to a potential split among the justices (Jon Healey, 4/15).
Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2010. The Company finished the second quarter of 2010 with a pro forma net operating loss (NOL) of $15.5 million and $17.1 million for the three and six months ended June 30, 2010, respectively, compared to a pro forma net operating loss of $1.3 million and pro forma net operating income of $798,000 for the same periods of 2009.
Researchers at the Children's Hospital Colorado Breathing Institute, one of the largest cystic fibrosis clinical care centers in the U.S., are part of a Therapeutics Development Network that oversaw clinical trials leading to FDA approval of TRIKAFTA, a new, highly-effective CF treatment for people with CF 12 years of age and older.
The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce the First Responder Initiative, which increases the Red Cross' capacity to prepare for and rapidly respond to disasters and includes the ability to quickly deploy tented field hospitals.
According to new research, unless carbon emissions are controlled, up to 75% of the world population could literally 'take the heat' in the form of deadly heat waves by 2100.
