An MIT engineer and Italian colleagues will report the invention-which may one day replace the ubiquitous Petri dish for growing cells-in PLoS ONE.
Transcept Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has resubmitted its New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking approval of Intermezzo® for use as needed for the treatment of insomnia when a middle of the night awakening is followed by difficulty returning to sleep.
Bilharzia, caused by a parasitic worm found in freshwater called Schistosoma, infects around 200 million people globally and its advance can lead to death, especially in children in developing countries.
The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received a five-year, $3.8 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to fund research that will address the challenge of achieving long-term weight loss among patients with obesity cared for at primary care practices.
In this week's Nature, researchers of the McMaster Cancer and Stem Cell Research Institute show that human embryonic stem (ES) cells can actually produce distinctive niche cells, which then release stem-cell nourishing proteins to help keep their parents ticking over.
