University of Toronto researchers have developed a method that can rapidly screen human stem cells and better control what they will turn into. The technology could have potential use in regenerative medicine and drug development. Findings are published in this week's issue of the journal Nature Methods.
Mayo Clinic today announced Heartland Health, based in St. Joseph, MO., is joining the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The network extends Mayo Clinic's knowledge and expertise to physicians and providers interested in working together in the best interest of their patients. Heartland Health's physicians will have Mayo Clinic expertise at their fingertips, including the ability to connect with Mayo Clinic physicians, who can help them care for their patients and improve their systems and the health of their communities.
While every one of our cells contains all of our genetic information, each type of cell uses only specific parts of that information to make its proteins. Uncovering more about the mechanism that directs which particular pieces of genetic information the cell uses is the research focus of Mary Ann Osley, PhD, University of New Mexico Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and Co-Leader of the Cancer Biology and Biotechnology Program at the UNM Cancer Center.
When Wal-Mart endorsed President Obama's health care plan in 2009, CEO Mike Duke said it did so "to remove the burden that is crushing America's businesses and hampering our competitiveness in the global economy."
