The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI) today announced a $1 million research grant from Cook Medical to support the next phase of growth for the Institute dedicated to discovery science and applied research leading to innovation targeting cardio-metabolic disease, diabetes, and poor nutrition.
This year's EuroEcho-Imaging conference in Istanbul, Turkey (11-14 December) will see global medical imaging manufacturer, Esaote, showcase Prevention Suite: a unique package of ultrasound imaging modalities for both cardiac and vascular investigations. Prevention Suite provides clinicians with a wide range of tools for assessing a patient's risk of cardiovascular disease quickly and reliably, often before symptoms occur. It is regarded as providing a ‘step change' in terms of early detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease using ultrasound.
The University of Nottingham spin-out company, Oncimmune Ltd, has developed a ground breaking blood test which will aid the detection of cancer as much as five years earlier than current testing methods such as mammography and CT scans. Physicians will know the result of their patient's test within one week of sending in a blood sample to Oncimmune.
People love to speculate about differences between the sexes, and neuroscience has brought a new technology to this pastime. Brain imaging studies are published at a great rate, and some report sex differences in brain structure or patterns of neural activity.
People with spinal deformity also requiring a total hip replacement are at greater risk for dislocation or follow-up revision surgery, suggesting that these higher-risk patients may benefit from a more personalized approach to their surgeries to reduce the risk of poorer outcomes.
