300,000 American women with breast cancer might have died over the last decade, if the US had adopted a British-style, government-run health care system. This shocking figure, from recent studies by the Lewin Group and Lancet Oncology, appears in a TV ad launched today by The Independent Women's Forum, a non-profit organization focused on issues of concern for women. The 60-second spot highlights the deadly risks to women under the "public option" - or co-op - plan currently under consideration in Congress.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to put lives and livelihoods at risk, 1 in 2 Americans say they fear a major health event could lead them to file for bankruptcy, marking a 5% increase since 2019.
Two core premises underlie Mobile Surgery International's mission to broaden access to surgical choice and quality. The first is that patients (and payers) should be able to make decisions about surgical options based upon access to complete information up front about all of the necessary services associated with their surgical procedure, the skill and expertise of the surgeon carrying out the procedure, and the total costs involved.
This study builds upon two earlier published studies (Mold et al., 2020, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease Reports) from the same group. The new data, also published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease Reports, demonstrate that aluminum is co-located with phosphorylated tau protein, present as tangles within neurons in the brains of early-onset or familial Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Results from the study shows that drug, memantine, is no better than a dummy pill when it comes to ameliorating disease symptoms, including the decline of mental abilities and also helping patients with moderate Alzheimer's, the researchers say. Sold under the brand Namenda by Forest Laboratories Inc and Germany's Merz Pharma, the drug had U.S. sales of about $1.2 billion last year.
