As medical practices nationwide focus on "meaningful use" of electronic health records (EHRs), the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) reports encouraging findings from a survey of AMGA member medical groups. Although few groups have yet to fully achieve all the benefits they anticipated when they began implementation, virtually all groups now have even higher expectations for the potential of health IT, as a result of their experience.
A working paper from researchers at the RAND corporation explores the various options to come up with a proposed robust plan for reopening up regions where vaccines have not yet been deployed across the entire population.
Clinicians from the McGill University Health Centre and the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) are participating in the first Canadian therapeutic HIV vaccine trial. Funded by a number of public and private institutions, including the Canadian Network for Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics (CANVAC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, this project will begin in April.
A change in Medicare hospital payments, which is based on quality and scheduled to kick in this October, could add to the financial problems faced by facilities that treat largely the poor and uninsured.
Most cells in the body carry on their surface tiny pores through which potassium ions travel. In controlling the flow of these positively charged ions, the channel helps the cell maintain its electrical balance.
