The federal government Thursday lowered a year's worth of Medicare payments to 751 hospitals to penalize them for having the highest rates of patient injuries.
A Senate vote on the package is set for today. The deal itself has left both liberals and conservatives unhappy but clarified both parties' priorities. For Democrats, it was protecting Medicaid and Social Security. For Republicans, preventing tax increases.
A new meta-analysis has found that delirium, a condition developed by many patients in hospital intensive care units (ICU), is associated with higher mortality rates, more complications, longer stays in the ICU, and longer hospitalizations.
BioTrends is pleased to announce the fielding of a new syndicated report, LaunchTrends®: ACTEMRA. Roche, Inc. announced that they received FDA approval for Actemra (generic name: tocilizumab) on January 8th. This represents the first IL-6 receptor inhibitor agent approved for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA); Actemra is approved for adult patients with moderately-to-severely active RA who have had an inadequate response to one or more TNF antagonist therapies. Actemra represents the fourth IV Infusion product in the RA Market and the first infusion product with monthly maintenance dosing.
Total revenues were $37.5 million and included recognition of a $5.0 million milestone payment from Mallinckrodt related to the NDA filing of MNK-795. Excluding this milestone and a $10 million upfront payment from Janssen in the third quarter of 2012, total revenues of $32.5 million grew 39% compared to $23.3 million for the third quarter of 2012.
