BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced enrollment of the 2,500th woman in the LibiGel (testosterone gel) Phase III cardiovascular and breast cancer safety study. This important enrollment milestone triggers the first unblinded statistical analysis of cardiovascular events by the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC), which coincides with their fourth unblinded review of all adverse events.
Findings from a federally funded study suggest that patients with locally advanced kidney cancer should not be treated with either adjuvant (post-surgery) sorafenib or sunitinib. The average period to disease recurrence was similar between those who received sorafenib or sunitinib after surgery (5.6 years) and those treated with placebo (5.7 years).
New research in monkeys suggests that, although living in an "enriched" environment can make someone less vulnerable to abusing cocaine, once started, extended drug abuse can eliminate the social advantage the abuser originally had.
Nasal congestion can be a sign of severe asthma, which means that healthcare professionals should be extra vigilant when it comes to nasal complaints. Furthermore, more severe asthma appears to be more common than previously thought, reveals a study from the Sahlgrenska Academy's Krefting Research Centre.
