About 1 percent of all emergency room visits are prompted by near-death experiences in infants, such as extended periods without breathing or sudden changes in skin pallor or muscle tone. What causes these frightening experiences is often unknown, but the result can be long hospital stays and neurological impairment.
Youth, prison inmates and individuals with multiple tattoos that cover large parts of their bodies are at higher risk of contracting hepatitis C and other blood-borne diseases, according to a University of British Columbia study.The researchers reviewed and analysed 124 studies from 30 countries, including Canada, Iran, Italy, Brazil and the United States, and found the incidence of hepatitis C after tattooing is directly linked with the number of tattoos an individual receives. The findings are published in the current issue of the International Journal of Infectious Diseases.
LONDON PACIFIC & PARTNERS, INC., the international advisory and investment firm, today announced that LP Healthcare Group, LLC ("LPHC"), a joint venture between London Pacific and Incite Financial, LLC, has signed an agreement to acquire Santos Administraçāo e Participações S.A. ("Santos") — a regional healthcare system including a 125,000-member health maintenance organization (HMO) , three hospitals with a total of 290-beds, three full-service primary care centers and other related interests in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The three hospitals include a 250-bed comprehensive regional hospital and two local hospitals.
Scientists at Rigshopitalet, Herlev Hospital and the University of Copenhagen identify a new biomarker that can predict the risk of developing dementia by way of a simple blood test. In the long term, this could mean better prevention and thus at least postponement of the illness and at best evading the development all together.
Researchers at Inserm, led by Claude Gronfier (Inserm Unit 846: Stem Cell and Brain Institute), have, for the first time, conducted a study under real conditions on the body clocks of members of the international polar research station Concordia.
