The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently awarded a $50,000 AACN Impact Research Grant to Brigit Carter, RN, PhD, MSN, CCRN, assistant clinical professor at Duke University School of Nursing, Durham, N.C., to study feeding intolerance in preterm infants.
Many healthcare providers use ultrasound as a first-line diagnostic tool in detecting and monitoring women's health conditions. To help meet the needs of healthcare providers administering women's imaging, Toshiba has introduced a women's imaging configuration for the Aplio™ XG at this year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago, Nov. 28 - Dec. 3, 2010.
Brain-tumor cells that are infected with a cancer-killing virus release a protein "alarm bell" that warns other tumor cells of the impending infection and enables them to mount a defense against the virus, according to a study led by researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
Experience throughout the world, including in Europe, shows that advanced age is the most important risk factor for death in COVID-19: people aged over 70 years are over 10 times more likely to die compared to those aged below 50.
Reports of adverse events, including death, from silicone injections for cosmetic purposes have been increasing in both medical and consumer literature. In studies presented at CHEST 2011, the 77th annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), in Honolulu, Hawaii, researchers from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana; Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan; and Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar, California all reported cases of near-lethal and lethal silicone use.
