A new study led by Dr. Manel Esteller, Director of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology Program of Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute, ICREA researcher and Professor of Genetics at University of Barcelona discovers that colorectal tumors present epigenetic heterogeneity that relates to the clinical course of the disease.
New research published in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's journal Emerging Infectious Diseases has confirmed the emergence of a new SARS-CoV-2 variant called HMN.19B from the viral clade 19B in France. The 19B viral clade — which includes the D614G variant — was prevalent in late 2019 but had since been rarely observed since early 2020 because of newer viral clades.
Approximately 20 percent of dialysis patients undergoing a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI; procedure such as angioplasty) are given an antithrombotic medication they should not receive, which may increase their risk for in-hospital bleeding, according to a study in the December 9 issue of JAMA.
As the Zika epidemic spreads to the United States, the potential for contracting the disease via blood transfusion has emerged as a serious concern.
