Oral immunotherapy for the treatment of egg allergy results in desensitization with long-lasting results in three-quarters of children, show study findings.
Burns can be among the most devastating of injuries. Following the formulation of practice guidelines (PGs) that addressed the care and management of burn injuries in developed countries, the International Society for Burn Injuries has updated these recommendations to guide the improvement of care of burn patients in resource-limited settings (RLS).
Restrictions on the non-urgent use of hospital-based services that were imposed when a provincial health emergency was declared during the 2003 SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in Toronto, Ontario, resulted in only modest reductions in overall admissions.
PuraMed BioScience, announced today that a clinical study of LipiGesic M has been completed. The study design was a double blind, placebo controlled, multi-site study measuring the effectiveness of LipiGesicâ„¢ M for the treatment of acute migraine attacks. The next steps include completion of the manuscript, submission for publication in a peer-reviewed medical journal and actual publication. In an effort to maximize the potential for publication, an embargo has been placed on the disclosure of any of the results of this study.
Investigators have identified a new mechanism that controls the number of hematopoietic stem cells - cells that give rise to all blood and immune system cells. In a report in the online Early Edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Harvard Stem Cell Institute identify a tiny RNA molecule that increases the number of these blood stem cells, an advance that may improve treatment of blood system cancers.
