Non-Invasive Monitoring Systems, Inc. announced that the Nogawa Patent Office in Japan issued Patent number 4391595 to NIMS on October 16, 2009. This patent, entitled "Reciprocating Movement Platform for Shifting Subject To and Fro In Headwards-Footwards Direction," relates to the comprehensively researched technology underlying NIMS' Exer-Rest acceleration therapeutic platform.
There is another use for botulinum toxin which has brought relief to some who suffer from migraines and eye spasms. Botulinum toxin can also successfully treat intense facial pain called trigeminal neuralgia, according to a study published in the October 25, 2005, issue of Neurology
The Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) provided comments at the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health and Society (SACGHS) meeting on October 8. AMP opposes the patenting of all naturally occurring genetic material and has signed on as a lead plaintiff in the ACLU case challenging Myriad Genetics' patents on the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes. AMP thanked SACGHS for studying how both patents and restrictive licensing limit patient access and potentially reduce the quality of tests.
"Pregnancy and childbirth is still the leading cause of death for teenage girls in the poorest corners of the world, and despite all the progress in reducing maternal mortality by 47 percent, we have yet to save these young, vulnerable lives," Sarah Brown, founding chair of the Global Business Coalition for Education, writes in the Huffington Post's "Global Motherhood" blog.
