Obstructive sleep apnea is known to be associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease. Now a new study indicates that OSA is associated with subclinical myocardial injury, as indicated by increased high sensitivity troponin T levels. Elevated hs-TnT levels are predictive of both coronary heart disease and heart failure in the general population.
Many mental health disorders, such as autism and schizophrenia, produce changes in social behavior or interactions. The frequency and/or severity of these disorders is substantially greater in boys than girls, but the biological basis for this difference between the two sexes is unknown.
The 2012 International AIDS Conference, which will take place in Washington, D.C., from July 22-27, "will highlight a sense of optimism among top HIV researchers about stemming the spread of the virus around the globe," according to PRI's "The World."
Preliminary research suggests that testosterone replacement therapy for men with low testosterone levels appears to have little effect on the prostate gland, contrary to some reports that this therapy may be harmful, according to a study in the November 15 issue of JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association.
