Sherry Young just wanted to be able to walk without pain. About three years ago, she began to experience sharp pain in her left foot. Her big toe had become crooked and constantly rubbed up against the adjacent toe, making it painful to run, walk or even stand. "I could not walk without intense pain unless I had a pad underneath my toes for cushioning," Young said.
Because Medicare beneficiaries account "for the vast majority of U.S. deaths" the treatment people receive "in the last year of life accounts for roughly a quarter of Medicare's budget." Dr. Joel Policzer, a medical director for a hospice, says that often "a dying elderly patient may have wanted less invasive care. But it doesn't happen.
Kewaunee Scientific Corporation today reported sales and earnings for its first quarter ended July 31, 2011. Sales for the quarter were $26,321,000, up 5.9% from sales of $24,858,000 in the first quarter last year. Net earnings for the quarter were $22,000, or $0.01 per diluted share, down from net earnings of $657,000, or $0.25 per diluted share, in the first quarter of the prior year.
A lack of sleep doesn't just leave you cranky and spoiling for a fight. Researchers at The Ohio State University Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research say it also puts you at risk for stress-related inflammation.
