Less than 40 percent of people with severe elevations in cholesterol are being prescribed appropriate drug treatment, according to a nationally representative study reported in the American Heart Association's journal Circulation.
Theragenics Corporation, a medical device company serving the surgical products and prostate cancer treatment markets, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Oncura, Inc. for the distribution of TheraSeed® palladium-103 brachytherapy seeds. Oncura is a unit of GE Healthcare. Under the terms of the agreement, Theragenics will be the exclusive palladium-103 seed supplier to Oncura, subject to certain pre-existing vendor agreements, for the treatment of prostate cancer in the U.S. and Canada.
A Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) study which seeks to establish whether high-doses of the chemotherapy drug temozolomide after radiotherapy can improve outcome for patients with newly diagnosed malignant glioma is a possible consideration for Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and other patients with this type of brain tumor.
On occasion, a virus may jump from one host species to another and adapt to the new host. Such cross-species transmission happens more often than expected, according to new research published in PLOS Pathogens, and it may play a much bigger role in virus evolution than previously thought.
It is also highly inequitable, as the greatest risks are to the poorest populations, who have contributed least to greenhouse gas emissions.
