The mid-December "milestone" for a federal advisory panel to come up with a definition of "meaningful use" of electronic medical records has come and gone, Modern Healthcare reports. That definition is to be used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to determine who is eligible for a share of $34 billion in subsidies provided as part of the February stimulus bill. The members of the federal panel began shaping their definition in May.
A new study has found that not sticking to a regular bedtime and wakeup schedule-and getting different amounts of sleep each night-can put a person at higher risk for obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension, high blood sugar and other metabolic disorders.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Cometriq (cabozantinib) to treat medullary thyroid cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastasized).
Rite Aid raised $4.9 million in 2010 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The money raised by Rite Aid funds life-saving medical care, research, education and outreach programs at 117 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in the communities Rite Aid serves.
