Accele Venture Partners, the investing arm of life sciences accelerator Accele Biopharma, Inc., announced today that it has co-led a $4.1 million Series A private equity financing of Otologic Pharmaceutics, Inc. Waters Corporation reported fourth quarter 2010 sales of $484 million, an increase of 13% from sales of $429 million in the fourth quarter of 2009. In the quarter, foreign currency translation was about neutral to sales growth. Scientists at the Institute for Infectious Diseases, University of Bern have developed an in vitro stem cell-based bioassay grown on multi-electrode arrays capable of detecting the biological activity of Clostridium botulinum neurotoxins.
Transplanting their own bone marrow-derived stem cells into 48 patients with end-stage liver disease resulted in therapeutic benefit to a high number of the patients, report researchers publishing in the current issue of Cell Transplantation. Yet, the mechanism by which the infusion of CD34+ stem cells improves liver function remains elusive, they say.
