Hand hygiene is a critical component of infection prevention in hospitals, but the unintended consequences include water splashing out of a sink to spread contaminants from dirty faucets according to new research presented last week in Philadelphia at the 46th Annual Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
Rowan University is launching an ambitious plan to transform health care delivery with support from a $3.05 million grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Through new education and research programs, the 18-month project will develop innovative approaches that respond to the region's emerging needs for access to affordable and effective health care services.

This defense is involved in acute and chronic gut diseases, but it varies dramatically among people. A persistent question is how our genetic make-up affects our gut's ability to fight infections. EPFL scientists have found that gut immunity is not affected by single genes but by entire groups of genes.
Altarum Institute President and CEO Lincoln Smith today announced the formation of the Altarum Institute Center for Studying Health Spending. The center will be a part of Altarum's internal Systems Research and Initiatives group and will focus on the macro-economics of health spending, health workforce, government outlays, and long-term fiscal sustainability.
