A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences BioVentures startup company, InterveXion Therapeutics LLC, has received two federal grants totaling $14.5 million for development of drug therapies that can help methamphetamine drug abusers break their addiction.
Finding out where gene-regulator proteins bind to DNA and identifying the genes they regulate just got a step easier thanks to a new technique developed by scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory.
On Oct. 15, SynCardia Systems, Inc., manufacturer of the SynCardia temporary CardioWestâ„¢ Total Artificial Heart, announced that its new Companion Driver System has received CE Mark approval to power the Total Artificial Heart in Europe.
A team of bioengineers from Rice University is bringing a promising new strategy for growing replacement heart valves closer to reality, thanks to a four-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The team hopes to use gel-like materials to generate three-dimensional patterns called scaffolds that can simultaneously mimic the complex structural and physical properties of heart-valve tissues and guide the behavior of tissue-forming cells.
