UC Davis researchers link increased body fat and lethal drug reactions in mice

Immunotherapy that can be effective against tumors in young, thin mice can be lethal to obese ones, a new study by UC Davis researchers has found. The findings, published online today in The Journal of Experimental Medicine, suggest a possible link between body fat and the risk of toxicity from some types of immunotherapy.

Unfractionated heparin standard dose may be optimal treatment strategy in PCI patients on fondaparinux

Results from the FUTURA/OASIS 8 study presented today at the ESC Congress provide initial evidence that a low dose of unfractionated heparin does not reduce the incidence of bleeding or vascular complications in PCI patients treated with the anticoagulant fondaparinux. Findings showed that the rates of peri-PCI major bleeding were 1.4% in those given low dose heparin and 1.2% the standard dose.
