Baxter International Inc. today announced topline results from a Phase 3 clinical trial evaluating the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics (PK) of BAX 111. BAX 111 is a recombinant von Willebrand factor (rVWF) under investigation for the treatment of bleeding episodes in patients with von Willebrand disease, the most common type of inherited bleeding disorder.
The statistic alone can cause distress: One third of newly licensed registered nurses leave the field after just two years. And yes, distress-; moral distress, as it was named by ethicist Andrew Jameton-; is a key culprit in the alarming burnout rate, says Professor Cynda Rushton of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
Dr Karin Heurlier and colleagues at the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham in conjunction with Biolog Inc of California USA, used powerful high throughput analytical tools (phenotype microarrays) that enabled them to compare about 2000 growth characteristics of several pathogenic (disease-causing) E. coli with a non-pathogenic laboratory E. coli strain.
Type 2 diabetes and obesity are linked to an increased risk of certain cancers. Recently published studies suggested that insulin glargine (a synthetic insulin preparation marketed under the trade name Lantus), may be associated with a higher risk of certain cancers than other insulins or oral glucose lowering medications.
Today's headlines hint that summer's almost over, but the heat will still be on for health reform.
