"The Obama administration's new Global Health Initiative, designed to broaden and better integrate health programming overseas, deserves wide support. Opening Minds, the largest systematic effort in Canadian history to reduce the stigma of mental illness, was launched today by the Honourable Michael Kirby, Chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada. "More than seven million Canadians will experience a mental health problem in 2009. Many of these people will not seek help because of the stigma surrounding mental illness. In fact, people who live with mental illness tell us that the stigma is often worse than the disease itself", says Kirby.
Recession-driven budget cuts by hospitals and governmental entities reduced sales for Allied Healthcare Products, Inc. throughout fiscal 2010. The company managed to offset much of the year's sales decline by cutting overhead and operating costs. Still, the company reported a loss for the year.
During Wednesday night's Democratic presidential primary debate — the first in a two-night event viewed as the de facto launch of the primary season — health policies, ranging from "Medicare for All" to efforts to curb skyrocketing drug prices, were among the key issues the 10 hopeful candidates onstage used to help differentiate themselves from the pack.
It's estimated that one in 100 people in the United States are living with celiac disease, but there are only a handful of celiac centers throughout the country. In response to a growing need for educational materials, clinicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Celiac Center have launched CeliacNow, a nutritional management website designed to maximize the health and wellbeing of people living with celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders.
