Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute have discovered a mechanism that plays a critical role in the formation of long-term memory. The findings shed substantial new light on aspects of how memory is formed, and could lead to novel treatments for memory disorders.
"Healthcare is now shifting towards predictive and preventative care utilizing diagnostics that allow physicians to follow the course of a disease, evaluate which therapeutic regimes are most effective, and determine long-term susceptibility and recurrence," said G. Steven Burrill, CEO of Burrill & Company. "As diseases are better understood at a molecular level, the promise of personalized medicine is becoming a reality.
