Scientists at Trinity College Dublin have announced a major breakthrough with important implications for sufferers of a common eye disease - dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) - which can cause total blindness in sufferers, and for which there are currently no approved therapies.
EOS imaging, the pioneer in orthopaedic 2D/3D imaging, today announced the installation of the EOS imaging system at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia. This fourth installation within the Shriners Hospitals for Children system, a group of hospitals focused on caring for children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions and other specialty healthcare, validates the adoption of EOS technology as the standard of care for imaging within the network.
Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology and the University of Lausanne have discovered that the sleeping patterns of baby birds are similar to that of baby mammals. What is more, the sleep of baby birds appears to change in the same way as it does in humans.
Increased orthopaedic surgical procedures and an ageing baby boomer generation have been boosting the demand for bone grafts. Even as new applications and innovative products create exciting growth opportunities, the key challenge for bone graft substitutes suppliers is to produce material with clinical efficacy equivalent to, or surpassing, existing alternatives.
Gastroesophageal reflux, defined as passage of gastric contents into the esophagus is a normal process that occurs in healthy infants, children and adults. During infancy, GER is common and can manifest with specific symptoms as vomiting and non-specific symptoms as irritability and cough.
