RCSI is leading an international team of scientists on a major research study that aims to train the next generation of brain cancer researchers.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the organism that causes tuberculosis in humans, also afflicts Asian (and occasionally other) elephants. Diagnosing and treating elephants with TB is a challenge, however, as little is known about how their immune systems respond to the infection.
Health inequalities in young people have grown alongside socioeconomic disparities between the rich and poor.
Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine are partnering with the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research to study tuberculosis. This research is supported by a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the Indo-U.S. Vaccine Action Program.
Scientists have identified a protein that appears not only to be central to the process that causes Parkinson's disease but could also play a role in muting the high from methamphetamine and other addictive drugs.
