Managing end of life care is a challenge for all health staff, as it often involves dealing with complex and emotional communication with patients and relatives and managing patient symptoms. But now highly sophisticated mannequins – which can talk and simulate signs and symptoms of advanced illness – are being used in a pioneering and unique training programme in Birmingham.
Packaging Coordinators, Inc. (PCI) is a global leading supplier of pharmaceutical commercial packaging solutions and clinical trials services. This week, they have announced that over the next six months the company will be further expanding its personnel by 50 at its Hay-on-Wye site. This latest recruitment drive comes after a successful apprenticeship enrolment programme, and following the placement of four Undergraduates from Swansea University; reinforcing the company's commitment to supporting the development and education of the local community. Since April 2013, PCI has already recruited 40 staff members within the life sciences sector, signaling itself as one of the principal employers within the Life Sciences/Biotech industry in Wales.
Scientists at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute may have uncovered a mechanism for blocking tumor angiogenesis that involves the patient's immune system, according to findings published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
A new study from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center that assessed emergency physicians understanding of time-based, antibiotic treatment guidelines for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) found that more than half believed they prescribed antibiotics needlessly in order to comply with guidelines.
