In what are believed to be the first studies of their kind, Cedars-Sinai researchers recording the real-time firing of individual nerve cells in the brain found that a specific type of neuron in a structure called the amygdala performed differently in people who suffer from autism spectrum disorder than in those who do not.
National data show that currently more than 10 percent of preschoolers in the United States are obese, and an additional 10 percent are overweight. In a recently published article, a researcher from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with peers and colleagues from across the nation, says that effective strategies to target pregnancy, infancy, and toddlers are urgently needed to stop the progression of childhood obesity.
Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) shot back today at what he called "baloney" coming from Washington Republicans: "Every step along the way these nattering nabobs of negativity have said we couldn't get it done. They said we would never move a bill out of Energy and Commerce. They said the Senate Finance Committee would never report a bill. They said the House vote would be strictly party lines and that the Senate would never let it out. Well, here we are at the finish line, and they're at it again.
