The nation's premier taxpayer watchdog group, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), today applauded President Obama for announcing that he will use private sector auditors to root out fraud in the country's two massive government-run healthcare plans, Medicare and Medicaid. The practice of using private sector auditors to identify and recover improper overpayments to healthcare contractors and providers, technically called recovery audit contractors (RACs), has been a staple in the private sector for many years.
Short-term follow-up is a reasonable alternative to invasive biopsy of palpable (capable of being touched or felt) breast lesions with benign imaging features, particularly in younger women with probable fibroadenoma (non-cancerous tumors that often occur in women during their reproductive years), according to a study published in the December issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
UC Irvine Medical Center recently received a Silver Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for its role in supporting organ and tissue donation.
