Scientists have what could be some very bad news for disease-causing bacteria. All three major classes of antibiotics that kill infectious bacteria do so in part by ramping up the production of harmful free radicals, researchers report in the September 7, 2007, issue of Cell, a publication of Cell Press.
Harvard Stem Cell Institute researchers, representing five Harvard departments and affiliated institutions as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have demonstrated that adult cells, reprogrammed into another cell type in a living animal, can remain functional over a long period.
Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that it has earned a $10 million milestone payment from Biogen Idec related to the initiation of investigational new drug (IND)-supporting studies of ISIS-BIIB3Rx. ISIS-BIIB3Rx is a recently identified development candidate designed to inhibit an undisclosed target to treat a neurodegenerative disease.
A new study shows that mild cognitive impairment (MCI) may affect more men than women. The research is published in the September 7, 2010, print issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
