Ling Gao and colleagues have developed a strategy that uses exosomes - tiny membrane-bound sacs secreted by cells - to mimic the heart-regenerating effects of cardiac cell transplants, while potentially avoiding risks associated with whole-cell transplants.
New research has shown that capsules containing a mixture of fatty acids can help relieve symptoms of PMT or Pre-Menstrual Tension - also known as Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS). Women taking the two gram capsules over six months reported their emotional and physical symptoms becoming far milder than they were before.
It was early morning in an operating theater at Providence Hospital in Portland, Ore. A middle-aged woman lay on the operating table, wrapped in blankets. Surgeons were about to cut out a cancerous growth in her stomach.
A team of Australian researchers say a once-a-day pill to lower blood pressure should be given routinely to people with diabetes to prevent heart disease, strokes and other medical complications.
