Doctors and scientists at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City printed and used a 3D kidney to help save a patient's organ during a complicated tumor-removal procedural.
The process of metastasis, by which cancer cells travel from a tumor site and proliferate at other sites in the body, is a serious threat to cancer patients. According to the National Cancer Institute, most recurrences of cancer are metastases rather than "new" cancers.
More people have begun using urgent care centers as a means of avoiding waiting for care in emergency departments or for a doctor's appointment, the Chicago Tribune reports.
A review in the July/August issue of "CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians" reports that two out of three survivors of childhood cancer have at least one chronic or late-occurring health problem following their cancer therapy, with about one in three having serious or life-threatening complications.
