Meningococcal disease - a serious infectious disease affecting the brain and related organs - has been detected at a child care centre in Townsville, Queensland, where a medical student died of the illness last week. Queensland Health has confirmed a child at the centre has been admitted to hospital with meningococcal disease.
Newcastle University (England) scientists have taken a major step forward in stem cell research, putting Britain in the vanguard of technology that could produce treatments for a range of conditions such as diabetes, Parkinson's disease and spinal injuries.
Moreover, they discovered that initially healthy siblings of a person with the condition were 2.5 times more likely to go on to develop some form of heart disease than were siblings of a patient with heart disease that did not relate to the left main coronary artery.
Ninety percent of all chemical products require catalysts in the course of their manufacture. They accelerate reactions and reduce the energy needed. Catalysts participate in reactions, but are not consumed. As a result one catalyst molecule can convert millions of substrate molecules, which explains the great economic value of catalysts.
