"A new strain of a potentially deadly virus related to SARS, which has killed one man in Saudi Arabia and left a Qatari man critically ill in London, does not appear to spread easily from person to person, the World Health Organization says," according to the New York Times.
Research studies demonstrating the viability of an approach to routinely detect the presence of fetal DNA in a mother's blood to accurately diagnose or rule out genetic defects - as early as the first trimester - was presented today at the 27th Annual Meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine being held in San Francisco.
According to a latest study many medical devices recalled in recent years by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because they posed a high risk to patients were not rigorously studied before being approved for patient use. The study, appearing on the web site of The Archives of Internal Medicine, said that most medical devices that were the subject of high-risk recalls from 2005 to 2009 had been cleared through a regulatory pathway with little testing. This included external heart defibrillators, hospital infusion pumps and mechanical ventilators.
SDI and Cegedim Strategic Data (CSD) announced today that they will jointly launch a new market research service that tracks selling activities in the oncology therapeutic market. The Oncology Selling Audit will be released in January 2011; 2 years of history will be available for reporting and analysis.
