A Mayo Clinic study involving 5,540 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer finds that maintenance chemotherapy after initial treatment is more beneficial for patients whose disease is under control, compared with more aggressive treatment.
A new study revealed that every person in the world is wasting about 500 calories of food a day, which is equivalent to one McDonald's Big Mac, and the wealthiest people are the worst in wasting food.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has posted its final recommendation statement on vitamin D and calcium supplementation to prevent fractures in adults.
Active tuberculosis can be rapidly identified in patients with negative sputum tests by a new method, according to European researchers. Active tuberculosis (TB) is the seventh-leading cause of death worldwide, and while the diagnosis of active TB can be rapidly established when the bacteria can be identified on sputum microscopy, in about half of all cases, the TB bacterium cannot be detected, making another diagnostic option critical in efforts to control the spread of TB.
Community Health Systems and the federal Justice Department announced the settlement Monday. In other hospital news, Tenet says its financial outlook is improving.
