MicroPort Scientific Corporation and Sorin Group, announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement to form a joint venture to market and develop cardiac rhythm management devices (implantable pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization devices and related devices) in China. MicroPort will hold a 51 percent stake in the joint venture entity, while Sorin will hold the remaining 49 percent interest.

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham have identified a chemical pathway that may be associated with seizures and shorter patient survival in some patients with malignant glioma, the most common and deadly form of brain tumor. In findings published May 27 in Science Translational Medicine, the researchers suggest that a transporter known as SXC is responsible for boosting levels of glutamate in the brains of some glioma patients.
A new weight loss study conducted by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) researchers reveals that dieters who consumed milk or milk products lost more weight on average than those who consumed little to no milk products.
