Real-time, 3-D microscopic tissue imaging could be a revolution for medical fields such as cancer diagnosis, minimally invasive surgery and ophthalmology. University of Illinois researchers have developed a technique to computationally correct for aberrations in optical tomography, bringing the future of medical imaging into focus.
Despite improved survival rates among cancer patients, the risk of death by suicide remains high, especially among those treated for head and neck cancers.
On Tuesday, representatives of the Eastern Illinois Foodbank shared results of a national study sponsored by Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization. The study is completed every four years by nearly 200 food banks and analyzes the effectiveness of emergency food distribution throughout the United States.
A unique new method to treat a specific group of patients who are at greater risk of rejecting a donor lung, allowing them to live longer after transplant without rejection, has been developed by the Toronto Lung Transplant Program at Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network.
Researchers with Jefferson Orthopedics are using their experience and expertise in post-traumatic joint stiffness to develop treatments that could aid in optimal recovery and restoration of joint function for members of the military who sustain traumatic combat or combat-related injuries.
