Scientific studies suggest that children with birth defects are at increased risk of cancer. However, it has not been assessed whether the type of cancer, the age at which they are diagnosed or the extent of cancer spread at the time of diagnosis, is different for children with birth defects compared to children without birth defects.
Delegates at a conference in London yesterday heard how ground-breaking research is now providing evidence that the children of men exposed to radiation may also be at increased risk of developing leukaemia.
A study by scientists at the Africa Centre for Health and Population Studies, South Africa, has shown that exclusive breastfeeding can significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child in infants aged under six months when compared to those also given solid foods or replacement feed (i.e. formula milk).
REGENERX BIOPHARMACEUTICALS, INC. announced today that it has completed and analyzed the safety data from its double-blind, placebo controlled Phase I clinical trial evaluating the systemic administration of RGN-352. The trial included testing of a single escalating intravenous dose of the drug candidate on forty healthy volunteers in Phase IA and, subsequently, over a fourteen-day treatment period on forty volunteers in Phase IB.
Minorities have poorer results and higher rates of unnecessary surgery from a common procedure used to remove plaque from inside the carotid artery, according to a UT Southwestern Medical Center doctor who is lead author of the study in the journal Stroke.
